Research Interests
Dr. Girraj Sharma
Assistant Professor & Assistant Director (CCFS)
Bachelor of Science (Jiwaji University, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India) Master of Forensic Science, Ph.D. Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya (A Central University) Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, India.
Dr. Girraj Sharma started his career as an assistant professor in the department of forensic science at Government Institute of Forensic Science, Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. He qualified for a National Eligibility Test- Junior Research Fellowship (NET-JRF) in December 2014. He received his Ph.D. degree in forensic science (forensic chemistry and toxicology) from department of criminology and forensic science, Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya (A Central University), Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, India. He also served as an assistant professor at the department of forensic science, Medi-Caps, University, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. He has also qualified Forensic Aptitude and Caliber Test (FACT Plus) in 2022 in Forensic Chemical Sciences organized by National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. Dr. Girraj Sharma also developed e-Contents in forensic science for UG level as “Co-author,” with Educational Multimedia Research Center, Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya (A Central University), Sagar, (M.P.), India. He also assisted in the subject mapping of course, preview of programmes and text editing etc.
His doctoral research work was focused on towards the development of a fast, simple, sensitive, and selective liquid chromatography method and to understand the chromatographic behaviour of most used antibiotic like amikacin, amoxicillin, ciprofloxacin, ceftriaxone, and metronidazole in hospital wastewater. Subsequently, in the next step micellar liquid chromatography technique (MLC) was selected to develop and validate a method for detection of antibiotics in hospital wastewater. The developed method was used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of selected antibiotics in wastewater samples collected from various hospitals of Sagar district. The beauty of the present MLC method is a direct injection of the sample in the chromatographic system without pre-treatment of the real samples. Apart from this characteristic feature it is sensitive, selective and is robust enough to analyse complex biological samples for different analytes. Thus, the developed method can easily be applied by research laboratories, food safety laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, drug testing laboratories, drug motorization centres and forensic science laboratories with greater efficiency and accuracy.
The growing demand of different antibiotics for the treatment of infectious diseases are increasing day by day. Moreover, India is the largest consumer of antibiotics in the world. On the other hand, these antibiotics are reaching the environment by various routes and affecting flora and fauna of the environment because of which environmentalist are working towards novel techniques to detect these pollutants (Emerging Contaminants). Then survey of hospitals of Sagar district was discussed in brief. It was also tried to explain that why there is a need to detect the unmetabolized commonly used antibiotics in hospital wastewater and to develop and validate a sensitive and selective analytical method.
