Child marriage and intimate partner violence in India: A national study.

This paper investigates the association between Child Marriage (CM) and lifetime experiences of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) among Indian women, using the National Family Health Survey 2019–2021 (NFHS-5)- a large-scale representative survey. The prevalence of Child Marriage was 38.3% in the current sample of 60, 480 participants. Experiencing any form of IPV, including emotional IPV, physical IPV, injuries, and sexual IPV, was reported by 29.9%, 11.9%, 26.4%, 6.0%, and 5.2%, participants respectively. Logistic regressions indicated that getting married before the age of 18 was significantly associated with experiencing any form of IPV. These findings are indicative of the need for a holistic intervention to reduce CM and IPV. Read More…

Systematic review of posttraumatic growth from sexual assault in women.

Using databases including PsychINFO, PubMed, ProQuest, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, this paper conducted a Systematic Review of literature (based on PRISMA guidelines) on posttraumatic growth (PTG) in women survivors of sexual assault, between 1980 and 2023. Out of approximately 78 articles identified initially, only 22 studies (18 quantitative and 4 qualitative) met the criteria for the current study and were included in integrating findings. The findings suggest that the mean prevalence of growth in sexual assault survivors ranges from 4.59 to 64.04 in the Post Traumatic Growth Inventory total scores, ranging from 0 to 105. Small to moderate PTG was found to be a recurring phenomenon among survivors of sexual assault. Posttraumatic stress, social support, religiosity/spirituality, and control over recovery were suggested to be associated with posttraumatic growth Read More…
